[:de]Heute am 20. April wäre der Künstler Joan Miró 125 Jahre alt geworden. Seine oftmals humorvollen Gemälde und Skulpturen machten den Katalanen zu einem der populärsten Künstler des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Joan Miró verband eine enge Freundschaft mit dem Pariser Galeristen und Kunsthändler Aimé Maeght. Dieser hatte zusammen mit seiner Frau Marguerite Maeght 1964 die Fondation Maeght in der Nähe von Nizza gegründet. Neben Werken von Miró umfasst die permanente Ausstellung unter anderem Werke von Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque, Alberto Giacometti, Marc Chagall und Eduardo Chillida. Sie ist eine der wichtigsten europäischen Kunstsammlungen. Für Miró waren die Gärten der Fondation der ideale Ort, um eine Verbindung zwischen seinen Plastiken und der Natur herzustellen. Wie er selbst sagte, entsprach sein Wesen dem eines Gärtners:
Ich arbeite wie ein Gärtner oder ein Winzer. Alles braucht seine Zeit. Auf meine Formensprache zum Beispiel bin ich nicht plötzlich gestoßen. Sie hat sich fast gegen meinen Willen gebildet. Die Dinge nehmen ihren natürlichen Lauf. Sie wachsen, sie reifen. Man muss veredeln. Man muss gießen, wie beim Salat (Fischer, S. 51).

Joan Miró had a close friendship with the Paris gallery owner and art dealer Aimé Maeght. Together with his wife Marguerite Maeght, he established the Fondation Maeght near Nice in 1964. In addition to works by Miró, the permanent exhibition includes works by Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque, Alberto Giacometti, Marc Chagall and Eduardo Chillida. It is one of the most important European art collections. For Miró, the gardens of the Fondation were the ideal place to create a link between his sculptures and nature. As he himself said, his character was that of a gardener:
I work like a gardener or a winemaker. Everything takes time. For example, I didn’t suddenly come across my own language of form. It almost formed against my will. Things take their natural course. They grow, they mature. You have to refine. You have to water, as with salad (Fischer, p. 51).
