[:de]Um 1880 zeichnet Heinrich Keller von der Weid aus ein detailgetreues Panorama der Stadt Zürich, das ein ländlich anmutendes, locker bebautes Stadtgebiet zeigt. Bereits sind jedoch auch Zeugen des Fortschrittes sichtbar. Die Strecke der Schweizerischen Nordostbahn verläuft auf einem mächtigen Damm und über ein Viadukt über die Limmat nach Oerlikon und weiter bis nach Romanshorn. Am Rand der dicht bebauten Zürcher Innenstadt ist das Portal des 1870 fertig gestellen Hauptbahnhofes sichtbar. Industriegebäude mit hohen Kaminen sind über das ganze Stadtgebiet verteilt. In Wipkingen bezieht die Stadtmühle Elektrizität vom Flusskraftwerk beim Unteren Letten.

Im Hintergrund des Panoramas ist die atemberaubende Bergkulisse des Alpenrandes sichtbar und verweist auf die Bedeutung von Panoramen als touristische Souvenirs. Aus heutiger Sicht ist die Darstellung ein wichtiges Zeugnis der Siedlungs- und Landschaftsentwicklung der Stadt Zürich.

However, signs of progress are already visible. The Swiss Northeastern Railway line runs on a mighty causeway and over a viaduct across the Limmat to Oerlikon and on to Romanshorn. On the fringe of the densely built-up Zurich city centre, the gate of Zurich Main Station, which was completed in 1870, is visible. Industrial buildings with tall chimneys are scattered across the entire urban area. In Wipkingen, the city mill obtains electricity from the hydraulic power station in Unterer Letten.

In the background of the panorama, there is the breath-taking mountain backdrop of the edge of the Alps, a reminder of the importance of panoramas as tourist souvenirs. From today’s perspective, the depiction is a key testimony to the settlement and landscape development of the City of Zurich.
