The Information Security Officer Network (ISO)

The Executive Board of ETH Zurich has issued the directive «Information Security at ETH Zurich», which entered into force on 1 May, 2018.

Directive on «Information Security at ETH Zurich»

«ETH Zurich is responsible for assessing the need to protect information held by it which is required for the performance of its duties, as set out in Article 2 of the ETH Act (staff and student data, research data, business-related documents, building plans etc).» (Excerpt RSETHZ 203.25)

Responsibilities

«Information security is a management responsibility falling to members of the Executive Board and heads of organisational units at ETH Zurich.» The heads of the administrative departments, staff, and the teaching and research institutions outside the departments and the department heads each appoint an Information Security Officer (ISO) for their area of responsibility.

Tasks and Competencies

Among other things, the ISO is the first point of contact for advice and assistance on all information security issues in his/her area of responsibility. The Information Security Officer Network (ISO network) brings together the ISOs from the departments, teaching and research institutions outside the departments and the central bodies. Representatives of the ISO network meet periodically to exchange information on information security.

There are currently 41 ISOs at ETH Zurich. Information Security Officers (ISOs) on the photo from left to right: Christian Herzog, D-PHYS; Hans Hirter, D-USYS; Thomas Fässler, Dept. Do you want to help shape the IT Security Awareness follow-up campaign?

We, the CISO and the Information Security Officer Organisation (ISOs), are currently collecting ideas, themes and core statements, which we want to take into consideration in the next awareness campaign, if possible. Creativity really impresses us, so we will also be rewarding the best idea with a gift voucher. So join in until end of January 2020 and help us shape the next campaign at ETH Zurich.
