Research Collection: ETH Zurich’s new publishing platform
Research Collection is the new publishing platform for ETH Zurich and comprises the university’s entire research output. It provides the staff at ETH Zurich with a single point of access for them to document, publish, and archive their scientific findings.
The Research Collection also serves as:
- Publication directory
- Open Access Repository
- Research data repository
Research Collection replaces the Open Access Repository ETH E-Collection as well as the university bibliography ETH E-Citations, and comprises all the data contained in these applications.
Features
ETH Zurich employees publishing their work in Research Collection benefit from the following features, among others:
- Automatic import of new publications from Web of Science and Scopus
- Indexing in Google Scholar
- Display of magazine copyright policies
- Reference to citable DOIs
- Access to usage statistics and altmetrics
- Flexible access rights for research data
- Backup of all data in the ETH Data Archive
You can find an overview of all the features on the ETH-Bibliothek website and in the Research Collection flyer (PDF) (in German).
The ETH-Bibliothek has put together a video to communicate the main advantages of the collection:
Collaboration with IT Services
For the researchers at ETH, it is essential that they are able to present a directory of their publication lists on their private webpages with little effort. Since the WCMS joined ETH the WCMS Developers from ITS SWS have been able to meet this need. However, earlier versions made configuring such publication lists laborious. For example, all of the ETH-Bibliotheks data had to be cached in the WCMS system.
The ETH-Bibliothek’s new Research Collection, on the other hand, provides WCMS developers with a new REST interface, which enables publication lists to be configured with ease. What’s more, the interface renders it unnecessary to cache ETH-Bibliothek data in the WCMS system. The publications listed on WCMS websites are therefore more up-to-date and there are no more errors caused by inconsistent data.
The Research-Collection is a prime example of how successful collaboration among various infrastructure departments at ETH Zurich can both benefit the research and the core competencies of ETH.
