SW Services newly structured

One month after the „Web Applications and Identity Management (WAI)“ group was integrated into the ITS Software Services (SWS) division, the latter adapts its internal organisation to meet new challenges and tasks.

Group „OIS Basic Technology“

OIS operations will be joining the User Services division (Hosting) at the end of June.

  • Administration of Apache web servers, Oracle databases und web application servers (Ruedi Schwitter)
  • SAP basic administration (André Hunziker)
  • Management of Open Text Archive System (Markus Eugster)
  • Citrix XenApp and other applications with Windows technology (Atila Alhambra)

The above adjustments allow ITS User Services more room for task differentiation and reciprocal replacements. Heretofore the group „OIS Basic Technology“ will have different responsibilities and a new impetus.

Group „SW Project Services“

Andreas Jost heads the newly formed group «SW Project Services» which includes:

  • Project Management & IT-Architecture
  • Systems Integration & Web Services
  • Quality Assurance

This group ensures core competencies for „business process engineering, user interfaces and service integration“ within the SWS division. In addition the group will employ internal and external developers to process software projects. In the future „SW Project Services“ will handle the preliminary stage of new software projects including creation of a functional product concept, IT architecture and cost estimate. Likewise, software implementation projects in new areas will also be realized. Since ETH Web relaunch developments are newly managed by „SW Project Services“, Dr. Benno Luthiger and Yves Serrano will accordingly switch to the „SW Project Services“ group.

Group „ITS Identity/Access Management & eServices“

The WAI group headed by Dr. Matteo Corti is to be renamed „ITS Identity / Access Management & eServices (short: ITS IAM & eServices)“ and will be charged with an additional responsibility. In addition to ITS management applications and other eServices it will also further develop employee web applications.

The OIS further development groups remain unchanged.

SW Services will be significantly involved with development of a new concept for the technical and functional design of ITS applications. Also to be defined within this context is how nethz admin tool successor functionality is to be implemented.

Group „Network-related Applications“ (NET)

The group „Network-related Applications“ currently part of the ICT-Networks (NET) division will not join SW Services.
After completion of the Komcenter project (KC) this group will be doing much less software development. Future maintenance releases for KC, operation and implementation of development tools, programming libraries, application servers, and decisions regarding conceptual and technical design issues will all be handled in close cooperation with ITS SWS. This way we can achieve a common basis for a homogeneous application and development environment in the medium term.
