Student Data will no longer be delivered on the public ETH People Search
On Monday, 15 February 2010, 7:30 AM, a new version of the ETH People Search software will be released. For data privacy protection the people search functions on the ETH-Homepage («Phonebook»-searchbox on http://www.ethz.ch/index_EN and detailed search mask on http://www.ethz.ch/people/index_EN) will no longer deliver any student data.
Accordingly, the data of any person who studies at the ETH, but is not employed or acting as a lecturer, will no longer be found using the search functions mentioned above. This restriction has been introduced in agreement with the managing board of VSETH. For the same reasons, the standalone-Application www.people.ethz.ch will deliver data concerning students only to authenticated users. Accordingly, the data of any person who studies at the ETH, but is not employed or acting as a lecturer, will be delivered by this application only after a successful login.
We have already commented in this blog about the ability of www.people.ethz.ch to adapt the format of the output automatically to the screen size of mobile devices. In the event that a the mobile device is not identified correctly, you can try to force the conversion using the following URL: www.people.ethz.ch/mobile. The new release of the mobile version does not deliver student data.
